Every game we support gets its own scoring engine. GTA VI is different from a competitive shooter — there's no killfeed, no team scoreboard, no round timer. The highlight-worthy moments come from four Rockstar-specific signals we're building around from day one:
SIGNAL 1
Mission & heist banner OCR
The classic Rockstar Mission Passed / Heist Complete banners are the natural clip anchors — the last 60 seconds before the banner appears is almost always the payoff. EasyOCR reads the banner text; timing is millisecond-accurate.
SIGNAL 2
Wanted-star escalation
Every star gained during a chase raises the highlight score. A 5-star police chase that ends with an escape into a subway tunnel scores dramatically higher than a 1-star ticket that timed out — so the AI ranks them the way a viewer would.
SIGNAL 3
Chase / gunfight / explosion audio
Rockstar's sound design tells you when the action starts. RMS + onset-strength peaks catch tire screeches, gunshots, explosions, and helicopter blades. Long quiet drives get skipped; sudden 2-minute firefights get pulled out as clips.
SIGNAL 4
Whisper story dialogue
OpenAI Whisper runs locally on the audio track. Character names, mission-critical lines and the kind of expletive spike GTA is famous for become scoring signals — the story moments viewers remember get pulled forward automatically.
🚧 Building against public footage. Until GTA VI ships, we're calibrating the detector against Rockstar's official trailers, State of Play footage and the GTA V engine (which shares most of the HUD grammar). Day-one calibration passes happen against launch-week gameplay — expect a rapid v1.1.1 tune-up as real recordings roll in.
Every Way You'll Play GTA VI, One Detector
Same core engine, different signal weights per activity. You don't have to configure anything — the AI blends the signals dynamically based on what's happening on screen.
🎬
Story missions
Whisper dialogue + mission-complete banner OCR carry the score. Story recaps and cinematic edits come out clean, with the payoff clip anchored on the banner drop.
💰
Heists
Long setup phases get compressed; the actual score / getaway sequence pads with context. Ideal input for a Long Highlights (v1.1) reel — a 90-minute heist becomes a 15-minute reel.
🚔
Cop chases
Wanted-star escalation drives the score. A 5-star chase with a dramatic escape gets the highest score in the session; brief 1-star tickets get skipped as low-signal.
💥
Open-world chaos
Explosion + gunfight audio + wanted-star signals combine. Random rampages and airport-terminal escalations pop out of an otherwise quiet freemode session.
🏁
Races (when added)
Motion + audio scoring covers races and stunt sequences. The finish-line moment and any big crashes get pulled out as clip anchors. Adapts to future race modes automatically.
👥
GTA Online freemode
Multiplayer sessions score heavily on chase-audio and wanted-stars since Whisper dialogue is less consistent. Griefer confrontations, business raids and posse moments all surface as candidate clips.
From a Weekend Grind to a Folder of Clips
Given the visual fidelity Rockstar has shown for GTA VI, expect recordings around 20 GB per hour at 1440p60 and higher at 4K. Local processing turns those long sessions into standalone clips without any upload wait:
Long .mp4 VOD4 hours, 60–80 GB at 1440p60
→
Banner OCR + audio + starsScored across the timeline
→
Heist + chase clipsRanked by combined score
→
Short OR long outputVertical 9:16 or landscape up to 4K
Optional: pair with the YouTube Shorts guide workflow to also produce 60-second vertical cuts of the same clips for cross-posting.
Why Local Matters for GTA VI
4K recordings are enormous
A GTA VI recording at 4K60 will run 30–45 GB per hour. A weekend grind is easily 100+ GB. On a 20 Mbps home upload, that's ~11 hours uploading to a cloud clipper before analysis starts. Local processing starts in seconds and uses your GPU for the encode pass.
Story spoilers stay on your PC
Early-launch GTA VI story content is guaranteed to be spoiler-hot. Cloud clippers process your video on someone else's server before you've even edited it. A local tool that never leaves your machine means your VOD isn't sitting in a third-party pipeline where it could leak.
No monthly quota for a game you'll play for years
GTA V lasted a decade of active use. GTA VI will likely do the same. One $49 payment covers unlimited clipping across the entire lifespan of the game — no per-minute credits, no "premium tier for 4K exports".

On GTA VI launch day, open the Highlights tab. Drag in your first session's .mp4. Game: Grand Theft Auto VI (visible after v1.1 pushes). Layout: Vertical Crop for Shorts, Landscape 4K for long-form YouTube.
Optional: Long Highlights (v1.1). For a heist or story mission, use the Long Highlights tab to produce one condensed 10–20 minute reel instead of many short cuts.

Common Questions
Is the GTA VI profile available today?
Not yet — GTA VI hasn't launched, and the dedicated profile ships in the v1.1 update, timed to be ready at day-one release. Buy the lifetime license today, get the GTA VI profile automatically when v1.1 pushes. Meanwhile the GTA V / GTA Online profile in today's build handles Rockstar-style open-world highlight detection using audio, motion and Whisper callouts and works well as a starting point.
What does the GTA VI mode detect?
Four core signals: mission and heist banner OCR (the classic Rockstar "Mission Passed" / "Heist Complete" banners become clip anchors), wanted-star escalation (every star gained raises the highlight score), chase / gunfight / explosion audio peaks (RMS + onset analysis), and Whisper story dialogue (character names, mission-critical lines and expletive spikes as a scoring boost).
Story mode or GTA Online — does it work on both?
Both. The detector is built around Rockstar's shared HUD language, so it works across story-mode missions, GTA Online freemode chaos, heist sessions and any future PvP or race modes. Story mode gets extra weight from Whisper dialogue; multiplayer sessions score more heavily on wanted-star escalation and gunfight audio.
How large are GTA VI recordings going to be?
Based on the trailer visual fidelity, expect roughly 15–25 GB per hour at 1440p60 and 25–45 GB per hour at native 4K60. That's why local processing matters — uploading a 100 GB weekend session to a cloud AI is a full workday of upload time before any analysis starts.
Can I export in 4K landscape for long-form YouTube?
Yes. v1.1 ships the full landscape output ladder — 1080p, 1440p and 4K (3840×2160) — with matching NVENC bitrate defaults. Ideal for cinematic GTA VI edits, story recaps and heist compilations. The vertical Shorts / Reels / TikTok layouts stay available for short-form.
Will v1.1 ship before, at or after GTA VI launch?
The goal is at launch — v1.1's GTA VI profile is being calibrated against public trailers and State of Play footage now, with a launch-week tune-up pass planned as real gameplay lands. If Rockstar shifts the launch date, we shift with them.
Will my GTA VI recordings be uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs locally on your PC. Recordings never leave your machine. Zero cloud pipeline, zero telemetry on the gameplay data — which matters more for GTA VI than most games given the spoiler sensitivity around launch.
Is this affiliated with Rockstar Games?
No. Gaming Highlight Clipper AI is an independent third-party desktop tool. Grand Theft Auto VI and Rockstar Games are trademarks of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. This tool processes your local recordings only; it doesn't access, modify or connect to any Rockstar service.
